  • the effects of corruption on youth
  • Why is this important?

For many youth, the COVID-19 crisis means limited or no access to education, a lack of internet access, and added family stresses such as financial instability due to caregivers being ill or out of work. However, not all youth are affected in the same ways. Therefore, it’s important to identify and understand the most pressing needs and challenges before they can be addressed.

  • How will findings inform the work of Care for 24?

Care for 24 will use findings to evaluate the needs of youth across the country’s 24 regions and develop programs specifically designed to address the short and long-term ramifications of the crisis.

  • In what other ways is Care for 24 supporting youth through the crisis?

Care for 24 is working to provide emergency food assistance for 1,200 Tunisian youth threatened by food insecurity as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic, particularly youth of single mothers, and those with parents who are out of work.

  • Why is this important?

The Happiness Index is a broad measure of a country’s trust in government, sense of community, and several other aspects of well-being. Knowing how different populations and groups feel about their country and surroundings can be used to drive social change, and inform decision-makers and new policies.

  • What are some factors that affect the happiness of youth?

Everyone deserves a happy life, yet youth are often at a higher risk of suffering as a result of adverse social and economic circumstances. Factors that affect the happiness of youth include: quality education, access to health and social services, a financially stable household, and engaged caregivers.

  • How will findings inform the work of Care for 24?

Findings will allow Care for 24 to identify and measure the challenges faced by Tunisian youth, and to improve our programs according to the areas of greatest need. Research findings will be made public as a resource to help inform the public.

  • Why is this important?

Tunisia has made important strides towards ensuring universal access to education by making schooling free and compulsory. However, challenges remain, such as unequal geographic distribution of schools, limited resources, limited access to digital literacy, a lack of English education, and a shortage of curricula designed to promote entrepreneurship. These issues are especially salient in rural areas.

  • Why is English proficiency important for Tunisian Youth?

English is the most commonly spoken language in countries around the world and it is widely used as an official language. Building the capability of Tunisian youth to speak, read, and write in English helps them unlock their potential, creating opportunities they may have never imagined possible.

  • How will findings inform the work of Care for 24?

Understanding the specific educational needs affecting different regions of the country will allow Care for 24 to offer tailored programs to promote academic success and prepare young people for the future.

  • Why is this important?

Corruption has the power to destroy the ability of youth to thrive by diverting funds away from the people who need them most, undermining health and education systems, promoting crime, and stifling the growth and development of Tunisia as a nation.

Understanding the roots of corruption and its effects on the youngest members of the Tunisian population will help equip youth-serving groups to combat its effects and to educate the population.

  • How prevalent is corruption in Tunisia?

While Tunisia’s revolution in 2011 resulted in the overthrow of the country’s authoritarian regime, reports show that corruption is more widespread today than under the former government. The plague of corruption affects every aspect of the country’s economy, politics, and security.

  • How will findings inform the work of Care for 24?

Understanding the effects of corruption on Tunisian youth will allow Care for 24 to anticipate and address roadblocks to their ability to reach their full potential. By better understanding corruption and its effects on Tunisian society and youth, we can also better prepare children to be ethical decision makers and leaders.
